GSTG Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Hyo-sang) participated in the "FSB 2025 (International Trade Fair for Public Space, Sports and Leisure Facilities)," the world's largest sports and leisure facility exhibition, held in Cologne, Germany from October 28th to 31st.

This exhibition, featuring 575 companies from 46 countries and attracting approximately 30,000 visitors, highlighted the future direction of the global sports and leisure infrastructure industry with key themes such as sustainability, energy efficiency, and digital solutions.
At its booth, GSTG showcased a variety of products, including artificial turf, hybrid turf (Cabaron, HERO), and golf mats. High-performance artificial turf made with eco-friendly yarn and recyclable materials, as well as products with durable, low-fill systems, garnered significant attention in the European market.

These products received favorable reviews from many European buyers for meeting quality, technological prowess, and environmental standards. Hybrid grass for sports fields and golf courses, which has garnered particular attention, is designed with a 20mm-thick sand layer to ensure compatibility with existing natural grass and turf. It possesses the same functionality and texture as natural grass, while also being resistant to external impacts, resulting in a natural course presentation and high durability.

Chairman Lee emphasized, “Additional difficulties are expected due to the protectionist policies that the new U.S. president will implement, and due to the recent chaotic domestic situation, our small and medium-sized businesses are literally competing for survival in a fog where they cannot predict even an inch ahead.”

He then appealed, “I earnestly ask the heads of related organizations who are here with us today to continue to support and show interest in establishing customized policies for our small and medium-sized businesses.”

Director Cho said, "Nevertheless, thanks to the efforts of small and medium-sized business owners, exports are gradually recovering, and as of October, they grew by about 5.4% compared to the same period last year. Per capita GDP also seems to be growing little by little, as it has surpassed Japan for two consecutive years."

24~27th Cologne Exhibition Center… Focus on social functions of leisure and sports facilities | 10 Korean companies exhibiting artificial grass, flooring, seating, and play facilities

The international sports and leisure exhibition ‘FSB&aquanale’ will be held for four days from the 24th to the 27th of next month at the Cologne Exhibition Center in Germany.

According to Rheinmesse (Kolnmesse Korea Office) on the 18th, ‘FSB’, held every other year, deals with sports and leisure facilities and equipment, while the concurrent event ‘Aquanale’ is an exhibition on sauna and swimming pool facilities.

This year’s event focuses on social sustainability to maintain a healthy community.

This is to revive the leisure and sports industry, which has been in a long slump due to a decrease in outdoor activities caused by the infectious disease outbreak and a surge in energy costs following the Russia-Ukraine War.

Stephen Canbyshire, Chairman of the International Association of Sports and Leisure Facilities (IAKS), emphasized that “FSB 2023 will provide a springboard for the leisure and sports industry to take a leap forward,” and that “it will highlight the social functions that increase the centripetal force of local communities.”

The ‘FSB 2023’ exhibition hall will expand the amusement facilities and public facilities exhibition hall to its largest scale ever.

This is to increase the industry’s interest in park facilities and playground equipment as outdoor activities increase and the importance of parks grows. Playground facilities for children’s physical development and community-specific facilities will also be highlighted.

‘FSB 2023’ will feature 450 global leading companies from 40 countries in various fields, including amusement facilities, ice sports facilities, outdoor exercise equipment, and materials for sports centers.

Major participating companies include EuroTramp, known for its trampolines; Konica and Polytan, leading companies in flooring for stadiums and sports facilities; Regupol, a manufacturer of elastic flooring; SMG Sports Machine Bau; Haro Hamburg Flooring; Kaiser & Kne, a company specializing in playground equipment with outstanding design and functionality; and Berliner Zylfabrik.

Ten companies from Korea are participating, including Geumryong, Design Park Development, Samkwang N-Sitting, S-Build, Unitech System, GS Web, GST, Hosu Industry, Fine Chemical, and GSK. These companies specialize in artificial grass, flooring, seating, and playground equipment.

280 companies from 30 countries are participating in ‘Aquanale 2023’, including Fluidra and Niveco, leading companies in high-end swimming pool equipment materials; and Schmallenberger and Spec Pufen, a German pump manufacturer.

The side events during the exhibition period include the IAKS Congress, the International Swimming Pool and Wellness Forum (ISWF), the Planner Forum, and the Marketplace Play & Exercise.

The Planner Forum covers the latest trending sports that are rapidly changing in Korea, especially among the MZ generation, such as running crews, climbing, golf, tennis, and mountaineering.

The Marketplace Play & Exercise is a side event that is being introduced for the first time this year. Through this event, playground facilities and innovative equipment for the future-oriented sports industry will be unveiled.

Golf Industry Newspaper 10th Anniversary | Selection of Leading Companies Related to Golf Courses | Focus on ‘Lists, Not Rankings’ by Sector

Which companies are most active in the Korean golf course industry and have the greatest influence?

To mark the 10th anniversary of its launch, this magazine selected the ‘50 Companies Leading the Korean Golf Course Industry’. This is to recognize and learn about the scale, diversity, and role of the commercial aspect of the golf course industry.

The Korean golf course market is growing day by day, and as of 2023, there are approximately 600 golf courses (equivalent to 18 holes) in operation.

In addition, a total of 15 golf courses (equivalent to 18 holes) opened nationwide this year, and construction is underway for 10 more golf courses with the goal of opening next year. There are approximately 20 sites where golf course construction is being newly promoted or under review.

This selection of the ‘Top 50 Companies Leading the Golf Course Industry in Korea’ was planned with the purpose of widely publicizing and emphasizing the vitality, scale, and diversity of the golf course industry, which is one of the core fields of golf.

In the past, there have been many cases in the golf industry of selecting famous golf courses or golf equipment-related products or brands, such as ‘Best Course’, ‘Top 10 Famous Courses’, and ‘Power Brands’.

However, there was almost no data that could examine the companies that play the most important role in the industry related to golf courses.

These companies are mainly related to golf course development and operation or course and facility management, and are not well known to golfers and the public, so they are not well known despite their large share in the entire golf industry.

However, these companies are absolutely important to golf courses and golfers by helping them build golf courses and maintain high-quality courses.

In particular, course management equipment and crop protection products help maintain healthy growth of grass, which is essential to golf courses, and an eco-friendly course.

Accordingly, this magazine selected 50 companies related to the golf course industry and wanted to publicize the most leading and recognized companies in the industry.

Companies related to the golf course industry were selected in categories such as golf course design, construction, supervision, course equipment, golf carts, irrigation systems, crop protection agents, materials, turf, landscaping, operations, course management outsourcing, sports lighting, IT, and membership.

For the selection, this magazine presented the following criteria: △company size △recognition △influence △contribution to industry development △innovation △growth/performance △contribution to the golf industry.

These top 50 companies are a list, not a ranking, and they are not companies ranked 1 to 50 in the domestic golf course industry, but 50 leading companies based on various selection criteria.

This also includes the desire to support those who work harder than anyone else to develop golf in the golf course industry, which involves a wider range of businesses than any other sports industry.

As GSTG’s representative product, the composite artificial grass ‘Cabaron’ cannot be left out. It has been a steady seller that has been loved for over 10 years since its release, and it is a hit product that has been well-received especially when used in golf course intensive pressure areas.

In 2015, the company developed ‘HERO HYBRID (Patent: 10-1939139)’, a composite grass (95% natural grass, 5% artificial grass) that boasts the world’s highest quality, and has been recognized for its superior quality by installing it in about 50 prestigious overseas clubs, including Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Brentford Stadium. In addition, it was installed in Sangam World Cup Stadium in Seoul for the first time in Korea last year.

Hybrid grass for golf courses
Natural grass life expectancy 4 times longer···Natural beauty strength

The new product that is drawing attention, the hybrid grass for golf courses, is designed with a 20mm thick sand layer to be compatible with existing natural grass and turf fields.

If natural grass is damaged by concentrated pressure, it can be moved to a spare field to recover the natural grass, and this process allows for semi-permanent use.

It has the same function and texture as natural grass, but is resistant to external impacts, providing natural course presentation and high durability. It can be applied to concentrated pressure areas or teeing areas on courses, and has an expected life expectancy of about 4 times longer than areas made only of natural grass.

Free tee mat
Soft tee holder·Excellent durability

Free tee mat is a product specialized for teeing areas where artificial mats are most commonly used. It is designed with a Russell weaving method that does not lose its shape even with golfers' strong downward swings.

You can put the tee in smoothly and naturally, and the cushioning effect of the 32mm high-density grass absorbs shock and prevents injuries. You can order the size according to the characteristics of the golf course.

Bunker Lawn · Riveted Bunker Solution
Prevents bunker sand loss and maintains long life

Bunker Lawn, developed to prevent sand loss from bunkers, has smooth drainage and sand layer stabilization effects during rain, and minimizes bunker sand loss even during heavy rain.

Riveted bunkers (aka jar bunkers), which are difficult to manage, can be constructed using artificial grass instead of piling up natural grass, and can be manufactured to be used as event holes.

The Riveted Bunker Solution has strong durability against hits from golf balls, and golfers can have a new and exciting golf experience while going over high slopes. With an expected lifespan of more than 10 years, it can be used for a long time after construction, and is receiving great response from prestigious golf courses.

Tough Guard
Hexagonal honeycomb structure, best grass protection ability

Using EVA material that is resistant to temperature, pressure, and wear, it protects the grass more efficiently. It also has excellent resilience that allows natural grass to return to its original state when the mat is removed.

The hexagonal honeycomb structure provides excellent stability, and the large hole size provides sufficient grass vegetation space. It shows excellent grass protection ability with protrusions and circular support for load distribution.

Insulation Mat
Specialized in protecting natural grass in winter

The insulation mat protects natural grass around the fairway and golfers' walkways in winter. It is a new product with excellent durability and similar to natural grass with a strong double-structured tissue. It is designed to allow natural grass to grow sufficiently with excellent drainage and ventilation effects. In particular, the product is lightweight, making it easy to move and install, and its excellent heat retention protects natural grass in winter.

Cabaron
The best eco-friendly solution for compacted areas

Golf Course-Specific Artificial Grass/Mat Industry Leader, Natural 60~70%·Artificial 30~40% Composite Grass Coming Soon

GSTG Co., Ltd., a specialized artificial grass company, specializes in developing and producing golf course products and solutions, and is leading the industry by making several products a hit. In particular, it has developed a composite grass that will make course management easier and is scheduled to be released in the spring of 2023.

GSTG Co., Ltd.'s high-quality composite grass and artificial grass are gaining popularity in domestic and international markets.

GSTG Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Hyo-sang), a specialized artificial grass company, was established in 1994 and has specialized in developing and producing products and solutions in the field for 28 years. It has successfully branded artificial grass and has led the industry by making several products a hit.

GSTG Co., Ltd.'s representative product is the composite artificial grass 'Cabaron'. It has been a steady seller that has been loved for over 10 years since its release, and it is a hit product that has been well-received, especially when used a lot on golf course intensive pressure areas.

In 2015, the company developed the ‘HERO HYBRID (Patent: 10-1939139)’, a composite grass (95% natural grass, 5% artificial grass) that boasts the world’s highest quality, and has been recognized for its quality by installing it in about 50 prestigious overseas clubs, including Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Brentford Stadium. In addition, it was installed in Sangam World Cup Stadium in Seoul for the first time in Korea last year.

A product for greenkeepers is also scheduled to be released soon. The company has developed a composite grass (60-70% natural grass, 30-40% artificial grass) that will make course management easier, and is currently undergoing test cultivation and field testing at the Yeoju Farm in Gyeonggi Province, and is expected to release it in the spring of 2023.

In addition, GSTG has developed various types of artificial mats such as stance mats and tee mats and supplied them to many golf courses, supporting golf course sales and course management, and is also well-received by golfers. The main products of GSTG that are well-received by golf courses are as follows.

Hybrid grass for golf courses
Expected lifespan 4 times that of natural grass···Strength of natural beauty

The notable new product, hybrid grass for golf courses, is designed with a 20mm thick sand layer to be compatible with existing natural grass and turf fields.

If natural grass is damaged by concentrated pressure, it can be moved to a spare field to restore the natural grass, and this process allows for semi-permanent use.

It has the same function and texture as natural grass, but is resistant to external impacts, allowing for natural course presentation and high durability. It can be applied to concentrated pressure areas or teeing areas of courses, and has an expected lifespan of about 4 times that of areas made only of natural grass.

High-density tee mat
Soft tee holder·Excellent durability

This is a product specialized for teeing areas where artificial mats are most commonly used. Made of nylon material, it has excellent durability and allows for soft and natural tee placement. Another advantage is that it is easy to construct as a roll type.

Bunker Lawn·Riveted Bunker Solution
Prevents bunker sand loss·Creates long-life bunkers

Developed to prevent sand loss from bunkers, Bunker Lawn has smooth drainage and sand layer stabilization effects during rain, and minimizes bunker sand loss even in heavy rain.

Riveted bunkers (aka jar bunkers), which are difficult to manage, can be constructed using artificial grass instead of piling up natural grass, and can be manufactured to be used as event holes.

Riveted bunker solutions have strong durability against hits from golf balls, and golfers can have a new and exciting golf experience while going over high slopes. With an expected lifespan of over 10 years, it can be used for a long time after construction, and is well-received even by prestigious golf courses.

Turf Guard
Hexagonal honeycomb structure, the best grass protection ability and efficiency

Using EVA material that is resistant to temperature, pressure, and wear, it protects the grass more efficiently. It also has excellent resilience, allowing natural grass to return to its original state when the mat is removed.

The hexagonal honeycomb structure provides excellent stability, and the large hole size provides ample space for grass growth. It shows excellent ability to protect grass with protrusions and circular supporters for load distribution.

Cabaron
The best solution for pressure areas···Eco-friendliness

GSTG's best hit product is artificial grass with a honeycomb mesh structure on top of natural grass, used on walkways and areas with high pressure to protect grass from external impact.

It is ideal for golf courses and landscaping, and has the distinction of being able to be used in European countries with many restrictions on butadiene content, etc., by using an eco-friendly coating solution.

Compared to existing artificial grass, it can smoothly express course undulations with its flexible structure and can create a very natural and green landscape. Another advantage of Kabalon is that it is easy to install and maintain.

In the future, GSTG plans to actively pursue the fusion of natural grass and artificial grass and the development of related markets, focusing on composite grass.

Composite grass is more eco-friendly than existing artificial grass and contains less chemicals due to its high proportion of natural grass. In addition, damaged grass can be restored or recycled as part of the redevelopment of the field after a game or practice at a sports field.

The high proportion of natural grass is expected to increase user satisfaction by providing results that do not feel foreign in sensitive areas of the game, such as ball rolling or bounce, in addition to the presentation of the course or field.

GSTG is continuously investing in the development of artificial grass-related technologies, such as obtaining domestic and international quality certifications such as FIFA and FIH. As a result, high-quality products ranging from Kabalon to composite grass have been released, and the company plans to spare no investment and effort for new leaps forward in the future.

Interest in new concept grasses applied to sports fields such as composite grass has increased due to events such as the Olympics and the World Cup, and composite grasses that combine natural grass and artificial grass are expanding the relevant markets in which they can be applied.

GSTG plans to actively target this expanded and activated market while also focusing on awareness and market development in sports industry-centered markets such as the US and Europe.

As we have already supplied to many prestigious club fields, we expect that good reviews in the market will be a great help in conquering overseas markets.

A GSTG official said, “Praise for our products continues from domestic golf courses to prestigious overseas club fields,” and “We will continue to develop technology and create high value-added products to expand our target market and provide products that satisfy more users.”
